A psalm of David
138
📚I will praise you with mywhole heart;
over against the gods I will sing
praise to you.
138:1 Jehovah God had all his heart. He would not bow down to any of the many gods of the nations round about Israel, but when in those areas where they were would sing the praises of the one true God. On “gods” see Ps 96:5; 97:7; 115:4-11; 1 Cor 8:4-6.⚜
2 📚your word 📖I will worship toward
your holy temple 📖,
and praise your name 📖
for your loving kindness and
for your truth;
for you have exalted your word
above all your name.
3 📚In the day that I cried out you
answered 📖 me,
and made me bold 📖
with strength in my soul.
4 📚All the kings of the earth
will praise you,
O LORD,
when they hear the words of
your mouth.
5 📚Yes, they will sing of the ways
of the LORD;
for great is the glory
of the LORD.
6 📚Though the LORD is exalted,
yet he regards the lowly 📖;
but the proud he knows
at a distance 📖.
7 📚Though I walk in the midst
of trouble,
you will revive me.
You will stretch out your hand against
the wrath of my enemies,
and your right hand will save me.
8 📚The LORD will perfect
what relates to me.
Your mercy, O LORD, continues
on forever.
Do not forsake the works of your
own hands.
138:8 Believers are the special work of God, more precious to Him than all of creation (Isa 43:6-7; 60:21; Eph 2:10). He has begun His work in all of them and He will finish it (Phil 1:6). If we are believers this should be our confidence.⚜
